Affiliate Disclosure

How Lights & Kits earns money through affiliate links, which programs we participate in, and what that means for our editorial independence.

Last updated May 22, 2026

This page is the FTC-required disclosure for affiliate links on Lights & Kits, written to comply with the FTC Endorsement Guides (16 CFR Part 255).

The short version

Lights & Kits participates in affiliate programs operated by Amazon and other retailers (listed below). When you click a link from our site to a participating retailer and complete a purchase, we may earn a commission at no additional cost to you.

These commissions help us pay for hosting, testing equipment, and the time it takes to research and write the guides you read here.

Programs we participate in

  • Amazon Associates (Amazon.com and international Amazon properties)
  • Retailer affiliate programs operated by manufacturers and third-party networks (for example: Best Buy, B&H Photo, Adorama, Newegg) when we link to those retailers for products Amazon does not carry or where another retailer offers materially better pricing or availability

Not every outbound link on the site is an affiliate link. Many links to manufacturer pages, documentation, or news sources are plain reference links with no commission attached.

What this does not mean

  • We do not get paid more to recommend any specific product. Commission rates across competing products are typically the same, and where they differ, we ignore the difference when deciding what to recommend.
  • We do not avoid criticizing products we link to. When a product has flaws, we mention them. When we do not recommend something, we explain why.
  • Affiliate programs do not influence which products we test. We choose what to cover based on reader interest and editorial judgment.
  • No affiliate partner reviews our posts before publication. Editorial independence is documented in our editorial policy.

How to identify affiliate links

Affiliate links on Lights & Kits point to retailer sites (most commonly Amazon). They typically include tracking parameters such as tag= or a unique path identifier in the URL. We do not visually distinguish individual affiliate links from regular outbound links in post body text, but this disclosure covers our entire site and is linked from the footer of every page.

If you prefer not to support the site this way, you can search for the product on the retailer's homepage directly. Your purchase will not generate a commission for us, and your reading experience here is unchanged either way.

Cookies and tracking from affiliate networks

When you click an affiliate link, the destination retailer may set tracking cookies on your browser so they can attribute a purchase to our referral. These cookies are set by the retailer, not by Lights & Kits. Their privacy policies govern that tracking. See our privacy policy for what data we ourselves collect (almost none).

Other revenue

We do not run display advertising. We do not publish sponsored posts. We do not accept payment for reviews. We do not operate a paid newsletter or premium membership. If any of this changes, we will update this page and label any sponsored content clearly.

Amazon Associates required language

As an Amazon Associate, Lights & Kits earns from qualifying purchases.
